O.K. I found good deal on a rental car for my time in France, picking up in Avignon and returning to Paris 3 weeks later. I just want to get some feedback (good or bad) based on personal experience with the following: Carrentals.com (agent) or Budget Car Rental in Europe. I have always had good luck with Budget in the US but not sure if they are good for Europe. Please, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.
I have used Budget numerous times in Europe with absolutely no problems. I have also used Hertz or Avis...also Sixt... I will rent from whoever is cheapest. I do not use the agents... I don't see any need to. I would rather deal directly with the rental company and I guess I feel better with a familiar name. But, do keep checking right up until the time you go to see if the rates change. Then, just make a new booking and cancel your current reservation. I never prepay for the car for exactly that reason. I also want to be able to cancel if I need to. (The Budget office is many times either Hertz or Avis in Europe)
Since you are going to be renting for 3 weeks you should absolutely look into a short term lease rather than a rental. Both Renault and Pugeot do them. http://www.autofrance.net/
Jeff, I have already researched both Renault and Pugeot for leased car and cost is about $400 more than the rental. The only advantage I could see was that you get a new car, your choice of gas vs. diesel, and total insurance coverage. Since I don't need the CDW coverage, the rental is much cheaper. I know I'll probably end up with a gasoline engine car with the rental vs a diesel with the lease, but I don't think the fuel cost difference would be as high as $400. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll see what others have to say. I'm not locked into the rental, I can cancel if I have to.
