Budget airlines weight limits

Hello All, Has anyone used the budget airlines across Europe. We are holidaying there over 2 months and don't have any set plans. We may fly, drive or train. However I see that Ryan and Easyjet have 15kg limits with very expensive costs for overweight. Do they adhere to those limits strictly? It takes away from the cheap tickets if one has to pay! I don't expect to be over 20kg(44pound).
Any suggestions? cheers all..Steve

"Do they adhere to those limits strictly?"

Yes, they do. And that appears to be a significant part of their revenue. This has been frequently been reported here by people who thought they would get cut some slack.

Yes, budget airlines are very strict about their luggage size and weight limits. You will pay if you go over.

Most important, the check-in deadlines are strictly enforced. You must have a boarding pass in hand--not simply be standing in line at the ticket counter--when that deadline arrives. If you miss the deadline, your ticket will be worthless and you'll have to buy a new one at full fare on a later flight.

Fly easyjet, your carryon can be any weight as long as it falls within the baggage dimension restrictions. ryanair will charge you dearly if you go over your carryon weight limit, even by a kilo.

Four checked baggage, you would be seriously over packing if your bag is over 20kg. We each checked jam packed bags with a bottle of wine in each, nowhere close to 20kg. Buy a luggage scale, their inexpensive.

This info is current, I flew both last week.

I had to check my 22" RS bag. It cost twice as much to pay to check it when not paid for in advance. And I had to go to another part of the terminal to pay for the bag.

I noticed that the easyJet website has a default payment of 8 GBP for one checked bag. Unless you are travelling super-light or have a carry-on under 22", it is best to pay that when you order your ticket.

A baggage scale isn't necessary if you have a bathroom scale at home. Weigh yourself, then weigh yourself holding the bag. A simple subtraction will arrive at the weight of the bag.

Other than the inconvenience of having to retrieve your bag at your arrival terminal, I think this system is secure, i.e. there is little chance that your bag will go astray.

I will use easyJet again, but will just travel light (as I always do) and check my bag.

This is relaated to my question about jet2.com. They have some of the strictest policies I have ever seen to be honest with you. I was hoping to try and travel with one bag, one carry on but I just do not see it being possible.

And remember with the budget airlines most use airports that are not especially convenient so that needs to be factored into you time and price schedule.

Easy Jet has strict wt. restrictions..not necessarily
so for the carryon (one allowed..you can't have both
a personal item..ie purse AND a carryon)..so long as
it meets the size requirement. They will have some
passengers place the carryon inside the metal frame
to be sure it easily "fits".

Recently, having experienced a shocking 100 Euro's fine for
our 5th luggage..(paid for 4 hold luggages on line
when I made the reservations..not realizing our daughter who was studying abroad in Florence had
sooooo much stuff). They are strict about the 44 lbs. per luggage restriction..if you think your luggage will weigh more you can purchase more weight
ahead of time during your online booking. If you decide to travel with ie..Lufthansa..if you
booked each segment separately...ie..USA to say, Florence, Italy...luggage.. piece concept will apply...2 - 50 Lbs luggage per person, l carryon, l personal item.
However, ie...the Rome to Paris route..the WEIGHT
concept will apply...44 lbs. max..otherwise, you pay
penalities. And on the return flight..ie. Paris to
USA...the luggage piece concept will apply again.
I was going to book each segment separately because
it was $500 cheaper..until I found out the inter Europe flight would only allow 44 lbs. Lufthansa
also has the Euro Air Pass which is based on Miles
flown from country to country which might be something you can check into.
