We are trying to from Budapest to split the first week of May. Any ideas on what is our best option?
Nothing seems very direct?
Currently looking at flying.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
Cheers.
Trains from Budapest to Split are not direct. You must connect at Zagreb, so I'd suggest stopping to see Zagreb. Or, in order to make the whole trip in one day, you have to depart Budapest at 6:00 a.m., arriving to Split at 21:20. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. Flights may not be much better, but try www.skyscanner.com.
You could fly Budapest to Zagreb on Croatia Airlines and switch over to European Coastal Airlines to fly into Split.
Vueling flies to Rome FCO from Budapest and on to Spliit--if their flight times line up.
Or you could fly to Zagreb and take the 5 hour train trip into Split.
Flghts and/or flight-train beats a ferry into Split.
As David has pointed out, it really is one of the most awkward connections you can make. Let us help you figure out how to make Split a more integrated part of your itinerary by sharing more of your expectations and limitations with us...
