Need to get from Budapest to Amsterdam--Train or plane--(not road) any ideas
I myself would take the train, day or night, since you can do it with one or two transfers. If you do night, the CNL and RJ transfer in Munich is the easiest, which is what I would suggest. By day it can be done with 2 transfers, and you see that lovely Austrian and German countryside, the Rhineland, and then the Ruhr before crossing into Holland. Either day or the night CNL is all right by me...it's a good ride. I've done Vienna-Amsterdam on the night train,... that was a straight shot.
It's nearly 900 miles and 18 hours by night-train. If you haven't traveled on a night-train before, you might see it as an adventure, but don't expect to bump into Hercule Poirot. The real adventure is trying to sleep on the train. One night in a couchette was enough for me. I would fly.
Too long for train. Fly.
Avoid it. You wouldn't take a train from Miami to Nashville, no reason to take one for that long. I live in Amsterdam, nobody would take such a journey on rail here.
The only reason for train is if you plan multiple stops and multiple days between the two. If not, the flight is faster and cheaper.
Hey guys--thanks to all for the replies---Fly it is ---I jagged a cheap (?) fare flying KLM non stop---leaves 1310 arrives 1520 approx. Thanks again for the comments
