What should I estimate for 2 people to go from Budapest to Prague to Vienna in October of 2008 on trains?
I've been unable to get pricing this early in advance on the various websites.
I would look in Rick's books. He gives estimates on the prices to/from certain cities.
I can help with one though. Last October I took a train from Vienna to Prague and paid $76. I bought the ticket the day of, & bought one of the cheapest ticket for that day.
Thanks Kelly.
Austrian Rail has SparSchiene (discount) fares to both Hungary and the Czech Republic. Probably the cheapest way to get from Budapest to Prague would be to book separate SparSchiene fares for Budapest-Vienna and Vienna-Prague. Each leg can be as cheap as 19€. Then book a SparSchiene fare for Prague-Vienna. Book by phoning the Austrian Rail Call Center. See here: http://tinyurl.com/2jj5hy.
For Prague to Vienna, you should take a bus, it's cheaper than a train, especially if you book in advance. www.eurolines.com
