Budapest/Metro & Tram pass

I am landing at Budapest's Ferihegy on May 19 and plan to spend three days touring the city. Is there a place at the airport that I can purchase an unlimited "multi-day" bus/tram/metro ticket at the airport? Or can I do that right on the bus?

You can buy transit system tickets at the post offices in terminals 1 and 2. You'll also see ticket vending machines in both terminals. And you can buy them at the news stand in terminal 2. What you want is a "72-hour travel card" which will get you on buses, the metro, etc, for that time period, with no limit on the number of trips. They also sell 24-hour cards, 7-day cards, etc.

And I strongly advise to get the multi-day pass as the ticket controls on the trams/buses/subways are strict and they will catch you. During my 3 days in Budapest I was stopped 4 times! As soon as they saw that I had a three-day pass, they didn't even look to see if the validation time period was still good.

Thanks all ...
Steve: if you haven't seen it, check out the Hungarian movie (with English subtitles) called 'Kontrol.' It's all about the aggressive and nutty Budapest metro police. Good flick.
