Brussels to Stockholm fly or train?

Our family are first time travelers to Europe. We what to go from Brussels to Stockholm but aren't sure the best way to get there. We will have a Eurail pass. But looking at the train routes there are no direct routes I could find. Has anyone flown on Ryanair or another airline up there?

It's a very long train ride. You'll transfer in Cologne and then to Copenhagen and then Malmo with the final stretch being to Stockholm. There may be a few other options on where to transfer but you get the idea. It's a late-afternoon and overnight trip to Copenhagen and another 6 hour ride to Stockholm. Although the scenery is very nice, I recommend flying. Check various airlines including ones like SAS for the best deals.

I would fly. I've never flown Ryanair. Make sure that you take into account all the extra fees that Ryanair charges for buying with a credit card, luggage, etc. Make sure the ryanair flight is really cheaper than a flight on a traditional airline like SAS. Also, be aware that Ryanair does not actually fly to Stockholm. they fly to an airport called "Stockholm Skavsta" which is really in Nyköping; there is a flygbus to Stockholm from Skavsta which takes about 90 minutes. Also, I believe that Ryanair uses Charleroi rather than Brussels National. Make sure you take into account the extra time and cost of getting to these airports. SAS flies Brussels to Stockholm Arlanda and I have flown SAS many times. If you happen to be flying on a weekend or during the summer period, the Arlanda Express which goes from the airport to Stockholm Central in about 20 minutes has a very good fare that covers 2 adults and up to 4 children for 240 SEK.
