From the Dordogne (Brive) area we want to get to Barcelona. You write on page 441 of France 2012 book. "The only helpful train is the one from Sarlat to Les Eyzles-de-Tayac. Can't find anywhere on EuRail schedules -- Can you please help. thanks we are planning on using the France-Spain Eurail Saver Pass
thank you.
Since no-one else has answered: There is a very scenic but slow rail route across the mountains from Toulouse (by direct train from Brive) to Barcelona, but looking at the timetables it involves a very long wait at the border station of Latour de Carol. Using faster trains you will probably need to change at Toulouse, Narbonne and Portbou. You can find times and book in advance for cheap tickets at www.tgv-europe.com for Brive to Portbou, but the section from Portbou to Barcelona is officially a regional train in Spain and you can't book tickets in advance on line. You shouldn't have any difficulty buying a ticket at Portbou, though, and you can look up times at www.renfe.com.
