Britrail Pass

We(3) plan to fly into London and travel much in England and up into Scotland on Britrail passes. Does the Britrail pass have extras such as boat trips like the Euralrail pass does? For example, we took the boat to Greece from Italy using the pass.

Could we take a boat to Norway? Has anyone taken a boat from England to Norway? We realize the Britrail pass is not good in Norway itself.

Thanks for your help.

A BritRail pass will not cover any ferries from the UK to Norway.

What are the ages of the three people in your group?

Well, that was interesting. I went to the BritRail website, and see they have a special "update" dated March 26, announcing the rail strike that had been announced for April 6 - 9.

What the site does NOT have, is accurate information. Several days, ago the strike was deemed illegal and enjoined by a court. There may be a strike at a later date, but certainly there's no strike now. See, for example: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8606708.stm

Obviously, the BritRail people don't care much about providing current and accurate information to customers.

We just returned from a two week trip in the UK using our Britrail passes. We would recommend getting a first class pass. For the small extra money, the bonuses were well worth it for us: free internet service on the inter-city trains (London to Edinburgh, for instance) as well as free tea and biscuits brought to your seat. Besides, you usually get a seat in first class, whereas sometimes the coach class can get crowded. The Britrail pass is valid on the Heathrow Express train, which is a 50 pound roundtrip value, and is by far the easiest way to get from London to the airport.

Thanks for your helpful information on the Britrail pass.

We arrive at Heathrow Airport in London on July 12, at 10:45 a.m. Since we will not probably be able to get in a London hotel at that time, we are considering taking the train on to Bath or Oxford that day. Has anyone taken the trip from the airport to either of these cities? If so, what route did you take?

Thanks again!
