Go for it. We recently booked flights from our hometown to London round trip for about 1/2 the summer fares. We booked the flights on Air France--a partner of Delta. All flights were on Delta planes.

After the trip was booked, we got a notice that the itinerary was changed--throwing in another stop and change of planes.

I got on the phone and got the flight changed non-stop into Atlanta and non-stop to London. And return the same, simple route.

My point is that you've got to be careful on budget airfares as not all flights are simple and reasonably quick connections. I'm not going to spend 20 hours coming or going--sitting in some obscure airport waiting for a flight.

Thanks for the tip. We had put a pin in a BA flight to Cairo and were going to watch the prices for a bit (the trip isn't until Jan.) Today that flight is $1000 CDN cheaper than it was 2 days ago for business class. So we jumped on it.

Pls share if you've found other great fares, especially in Business. Thanks so much. We are traveling and it's difficult for me to spend much time looking. Good luck!

Pat, have you sworn off British Airways because of your troubles with canceled flights on the Switzerland trip in 2022?

If not, you might consider booking a trip this fall with them right now by just flying to London, and adding the main destination later when you decide where you want to go. The intra-Europe flights on BA are inexpensive if you book early, or you could use any of several other airlines that fly from London for that part. And you wouldn’t have to spend any extra time looking around for more good deals.

Here are the sale prices I found on BA for a hypothetical trip, departing San Diego Oct. 25 and returning November 8:

Roundtrip in Business Class, $3900 per person

Roundtrip in Premium Economy, $1600 per person

Hybrid trip with outbound (overnight flight) in Business and the return (daytime flight) in Premium Economy: $2700 each

Note that this would require separate tickets for the intra-Europe flight, so it would be best to spend an overnight or two in London in each direction so you don’t miss the unconnected flight. This is especially important on the return, as you don’t want to take any risks with the long-haul flight home.

We almost always book our trips to Europe this way and make good use of the time in London—-we always enjoy some time there. On occasion we just book with a long layover at Heathrow for the outbound flight (4 hours minimum) but we always stay at least two nights in or near London before the return flight.

But maybe that wouldn’t work for you.

Lola, we are still with British Airways. When they upgraded us to First Class for that return flight from Switzerland in 2121 my husband recommitted to them. Thx for remembering!
Carol, we are looking at next spring. We can't travel in the fall because it's wildfire season in California. Our primary concern revolves around the three dogs, not the house so much. As our house sitter lives in the area, she would need to worry about her own home first.
We were lucky on this trip as we had a BA Companion Pass and Avios, and booked as soon as BA released qualifying seats.
I must say that this outbound BA flight was very nice and perfectly on time!
Thx to all and good luck finding great fares!

The sale prices on Business Class seats are good for travel through April 30, 2024, so might that work for you?

Thank you for posting this Carol. Although we can’t take advantage of it because our travel schedule is already full.

Thanks, Carol now retired, for posting. And thanks to Jazz+Travels for the details. I'll check, but I think we'll be traveling too late. We're looking at a May RSE tour, and probably will be leaving here about May 1. A late April departure might be possible, but that depends on when my brother and his wife get home from their April trip!
