British Airways headsets

We are flying from London to Portland, Oregon. We have premium economy seats. BA apparently provides noise canceling headsets. Anyone have experience with these, we normally travel with Bose headsets, don’t want to pack them if the provided headsets are adequate.

I thought the BA headsets were fine, don't remember whether they were active noise-cancelling, but I'm not too fussy. I wouldn't bring a big headset on a multi-week trip just for the sound quality on the flights.

One thing that I remember is that the headsets on the BA flights I have taken have always had a slightly different plug in type than my Bose headphones. Will the Bose headphones still work in those other plug in types? I don't know because I have never tried. I just used the provided headphones and felt that they were adequate for me.

If you’re used to the Bose headsets, you will not be happy with whatever the airline gives you for free. They are dramatically less effective and dramatically cheaper for the airline to buy.

They do have two prongs on most of the airlines but you can buy an adapter on Amazon for five bucks

I take my own and I’ve never regretted it it’s worth the small amount of space and weight they take up

I find that the headphones actually take up quite a bit of space for the amount of time that I use them. I left them home last summer just because space was at such a premium. If you have room, fine. If you don't have room, it will also be fine.

I had a recent BA business class flight and the headphones 🎧 were bang olufsen.
Quite nice, but for me it would not have been worth the space in my pack even for something supposedly better.

The ones in Premium Economy aren't as good as the ones in Biz.

Like Carol now retired, I've given up on carrying my larger headphones. (I had replaced them with relatively cheap wired, noise-canceling earbuds, which were great. But it turned out they were fragile. And discontinued.)

I've been fine getting by the over-the-ear headphones I've gotten in PremEcon on BA, AA, and Iberia.

I have ringing in the ears pretty bad so I have to have a good noise cancelling system. I have been on four BA 787’s this year in First and Business Classes. I tried the BA headset on my first trip and it was terrible, not even close to my old, over the ear Bose headsets.

Fortunately I had my Bose wired ear buds with me and they worked just fine. As Carol said the BA headsets have two prongs. I did have my Amazon adapter with me and it would not fit! Be sure NOT to get an adapter with two prongs the same size. No worries though, I plugged my Bose ear bud wire with the single prong into the BA outlet just to see what would happen and found that it worked just fine, full stereo and everything.

Thank you everyone for your experience. We have decided to take our Bose.

I usually give the BA headsets away to the person sitting next to me who wants an extra set.
