We have a flight from SFO to London (Heathrow) and then two hours later we leave on a flight to Paris viva British Airways. Will we need to clear customs in London or Paris or Both places? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in Advance!
You won't have to go through Immigration or Customs at Heathrow...that will be done at Paris. You will have to go through a security screening. At this screening they will want to look at your passport to make sure it matches your boarding pass.....just like the TSA does in the US.
If you go to www.heathrowairport.com and click on "connecting flights", the procedures you'll go through at Heathrow are well explained.
Follow Tom's advice and then what Michael stated. There is no need for you to go through passport control at Heathrow. Just security. If you're flying BA the entire way you won't even have to change terminals.
I've not connected to Paris, but I have connected to Berlin and Edinburgh through Heathrow with about this amount of time. Follow the signs and you'll do okay. You do have to clear security, and I've had to change terminals every time. Pam
I just went through Heathrow connecting to Rome. You do have to go thru security clearance again. If you're flying BA all the way thru, you stay in Terminal 5. It's huge, there's 3 gates: A,B and C with shuttles in between. The signs are pretty clear but if you need help, they speak English!! I'd say it takes at least 30 minutes for this process between waiting in line and walking to your gate.
T5 can be very confusing the first time through. You just keep following signs to "connecting flights", and after security screening you will end up in the large shopping mall area. There is a huge board that displays gates for departing flights, but they don't put them up until 30 minutes or less before the flight. I guess the idea is that you will stay there and shop rather than settle in at the gate seating. We thought we could just go from our arrival gate on th eoverseas flight to our departing gate for the flight to the continent but it doesn't work that way.
Yes, you do have to wait in the shopping mall area before they announce your flight. Heathrow has worked that way for many many years.
If they want you at the gate at least 30 minutes before your flight departs and they don't post the gates until 30 minutes before the flight takes off. That doesn't' leave any walking to the gate time. Am I missing something?
Thanks Mary
Mary - My bet is that there is some security reason why they want a large mass of people to wait in a consolidated space. Edwin
Bill, If you check the Heathrow airport site, you can find a step by step process of which you have to go through to catch a connecting flight at Heathrow. Edwin
