I just go the dreaded email from British Airways, "We're sorry that your upcoming flight has been cancelled." I was scheduled to fly from Dulles to Heathrow on June 23. I was able to reschedule on a later flight that day out of BWI. Now I'm nervous that this flight or the return flight will be cancelled too. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Probably if we have flown, we have had the same experience. Sounds like you have done the best you could and are rescheduled. The best you can do is keep a close eye on your flights and research your options before getting rescheduled. I have flown internationally 5 times since July 2021, with 2 U.S. trips coming up in June, then 4 more international trips after that. So far all but my future Nov. & Dec. trips have had significant changes. With researching, I have sometimes gotten better flights - but sometimes had to put up with long layovers.
Oddly, I have have had only one problem change coming back to the U.S. but it was far enough ahead that I could easily plan around it.
Thanks Travelmom. It sounds like this is fairly common for airlines these days. Your response has helped put my mind at ease….somewhat. I was supposed to take this trip in 2020, and I’m almost afraid to get excited about it. I hope your future travels go off without a hitch.
Stacie, it is really common (you could go back and research past threads) and the best you can do is be flexible and keep an eye on your flights. Monday I dealt with a change for October because of a cancelled flight out of my home airport. I looked up what the possibilities were before I called and ended up with a better connection than I originally had. Same thing for a trip in March. However I have also had to adjust to worse departure times and long layovers in order to not miss a day of my trip. It’s what’s happening these days….. Even with a cancellation forcing you to reschedule, it’s rare that it entirely messes up a trip. Possible but unlikely.
About half of my flights (both domestic and international) since the beginning of this year have been subject to "changes to my itinerary" which, when I look closely, have proven to be a cancelled flight.
In some respects, I like when this happens because the airlines reschedule me, with the option for me to choose a different flight if their choice doesn't work for me. In some cases I've actually preferred the new flights, which may have been a more expensive option when I bought my tickets!
It has been happening since things opened up a year ago and happened to me but all ended well.
Thanks to everyone who responded!! I feel much better now. I guess you can chalk it up to first time jitters. I'm gonna keep my eye out for other flights...just in case.
Always have a Plan B. Enjoy the UK!
Seems BA has been cancelling a lot of flights lately. We used to fly them exclusively, but not anymore. Hopefully they (and others) get it worked out.
