British Air--worth paying to pre-select seats?

We booked flights on British Air and didn't find out until after the fact that they charge to select your seats. We are in their Premium Economy class. My husband & I are traveling together; do we have a chance of getting seats together that are not middle seats if we wait for the 24 hour window, or is it worth ponying up the extra money to select our seats now?

Thanks!

I have always been able to change my seat to an aisle seat and sit next to my husband across the aisle at the 24 hour check in with BA. That being said, I paid for the flight to Heathrow to pick a seat for my upcoming trip, because I'm traveling alone this time and doing whatever I darn well please. Sorry, I digressed. If history of 14 years with BA flights is correct, in economy mostly, you should be fine. Wray

I always feel like it's worth it to have my seat preselected. I just don't like leaving things so close to my departure.

On a trip to Prague and Budapest, we connected to BA in Heathrow to Prague and then back to Heathrow from Budapest. I think I paid around $35 to pick my seat for both flights. It was well worth it to me.

We travel first class and always select our seats in advance. It is well worth paying extra and picking out your own seats.

My experience has been that seating is wide open if you check in online as soon as the flight opens, but I've never been in Premium. You can choose to pay for seats any time, so if you're anxious, you can take a look at the seating from time to time on their website and see if the seats in your section are filling up.

I agree with Chani...I've had the misfortune a few times of having to check in when we arrived at the airport because of no free wifi at the hotel and have ended up seated apart from my husband...but I've had great luck if I get to the online check in as soon as it opens up...

Just in case it is useful to anyone, the lowest level of elite in a Oneworld airline (ruby - doesn't have to be BA) enables you to select seats 7 days in advance at no cost. Higher levels can select at times of booking.
