British Air or Air France to Rome

My wife and I are flying to Rome from Los Angeles in Premium Economy and have a choice of British Air or Air France, we have a predicament in deciding which carrier to use. Here are the facts: 1.) Air France is about $800 per person cheaper for Premium Economy Seating BUT their return flight from Rome is not as convenient as BA's. We'd need to be up and on the way to the airport around 3 A.M. (which really means not sleeping that night, you know, anxieties about over-sleeping and missing the flight.) 2.) I have permanent Platinum status on American Airlines and they are partners with BA. Will my Platinum status possibly help getting us upgraded on the BA flights? I will get AA frequent flyer miles doubled if I fly BA. 3.) On which airline will we have the more comfortable flight experience, i.e. seating, meals, pitch of seats, etc? Any info will be greatly appreciated--thanks in advance!

$800 per person less on Air France? That is a lot. I have no idea what Platinum status on AA will get you on British Airways in the way of upgrades. I assume you don't have enough miles to use for even one of these tickets to Rome? I think BA's price for premium economy is high because it is pretty easy to upgrade to Business, with those very comfortable flat-bed seats. If you are willing to pay for PE on British, that is exactly what I would do (and have done). I've sent you a private message explaining how so you can ask me for more detail if you like.

Thank goodness Air France flies AirBus planes out of Seattle. That is a long flight in a 777. For $800 I would sit in a jump seat all the way.
