Bristol England to Cottswalds

Hello, I’ll be flying from Porto to Bristol and then need to get to Nailsworth in the Cottswolds. Is the train the best way to travel or should I consider hiring a car? Thanks!

It depends on your preferences! If you’re comfortable driving, hiring a car would give you the most flexibility, especially for exploring the Cotswolds

Neither Bristol Airport or Nailsworth have railway stations.

Take the Bristol Airport flyer bus every 12 minutes to Bristol Temple Meads station (£9), train to Gloucester (twice an hour, £11.70), then bus #63 every hour from Gloucester Transport Hub (opposite the Railway Station) for the 56 minute ride to Nailsworth- £3.

Note that on the train you just buy your ticket when you arrive at the station. You may strike lucky, and get a last minute Advance (train specific) ticket for less than the £11.70. They exist on some trains until minutes before travel- this morning on the 38 minutes past the hour train at £11.70- a huge 70 pence saving. Useful if you chance on it, but not worth waiting 30 minutes for.

Note that, if you want to make things really easy for yourself, you can buy a through ticket ahead of time from Great Western for the airport bus and train for £20.70- the same aggregate price, travelling on the first available bus, and then the first available train.

The station code for the Airport is QAE.

If you don’t mind driving it will make life easier. It’s about an hour drive which will be the quickest way to make the journey. Nailsworth is a lovely little town.

Oh, I meant hiring a driver-- not sure how I feel about driving in England, especially navigating a city. I've never driven on the left side!

hi,

just a bit of language tuition.

If you want a person to pick you up and take you somewhere, usually reasonably close - that's a taxi

If you want that but you want to book it in advance (required by law or you are not insured), either a few minutes or the day or so before, to a quoted price and no meter - that's a minicab or in small towns, just a taxi

If you want to rent a car and self drive - that's a hire car

If you want a driver and their car to take you around, or collect you at an airport with your name on a board at Arrivals - that is Private Hire

Approximately.

Hope that helps

conscioustrip, best to start your own thread as your question is not related to the original one and it will become confusing.
