Bringing Bubbly Home in 2 hours!!!

I finally got a bit of courage to bring home sparkling wine from Italy. I just had the thought that with changing pressure in a plane, this might be unwise. Shall I pull it?

Chill it a bit , maybe an hour , which should considerably reduce the explosive possibility .

Max altitude for both cabin and hold is about eight grand. Temps are about identical as well.

We've flown multiple times with cases of wine (all times of the year and to the tropics), and never had a problem with leaking cork/or popped cork due to temperature or changing air pressure. Most Sparkling wines have the wire hood that in theory should hold the cork in place. If temperatures are extremely high -100+ degrees, and luggage (wine) is sitting on the tarmac for many, many hours the cork might pop (due to temperature not air pressure). But if the wine got hot anyway, wine would be ruined anyway. Go for it!

You are absolutely safe. The whole idea of pressure change causing problems in a myth. Remember wine is exported to the US on cargo planes all the time with no problems.

You could save yourself the trouble by buying the Prosecco or other sparkling wine in the U.S.

We always bring home Champagne with us to the States. We've never had a problem. You'll love having the wine when you're home!

Thanks, everyone! My wine and I are at home, very comfortably, thanks to your help. I had bought a product called 'wine diaper' (on Amazon), but the thought of a cork popping in luggage made me scared at the last minute. I did it! It was quite simple, now that I think about it. Thanks you, thank you.
