Starting end of March Ryanair will start to serve Barcelona's real airport (BCN). So far the airline called two airports 60 miles away "Barcelona". Service to BCN is confirmed from Madrid, Beauvais (France), Ibiza and Gran Canaria. It's expected that other routes will be announced soon as well. MAD-BCN is one of the busiest routes in Spain. Industry experts also assume that the airline's engagement at Girona (Costa Brava) airport will be reduced in favor of BCN.
And for how many other major cities in Europe does RyanAir serve the "real" airport. (The answer, by the way, is only one, Madrid.)
Lee, hm, they do serve Dublin's real airport, Budapest's real one and the real one in Seville (although I find the town if Jerez only 1 hour South of it much, much more worthwhile).
Thanks for the info Andreas! We are shopping for some cheap flghts "over the pond" from Portland or Seattle, and the flights flying into Dublin keep showing up.
We knew that was a Ryan Air hub, and were contemplating Spain as one of our stops this Spring. Knowing which "real" airports are served is a great piece of info for us .
Ops. Yes, Ryan does serve some major cities on those little islands off the west coast. I meant to say, how many real airports on the continent. But Ryan does serve some of the real hotspots on the continent, like Eindhoven, Weeze, Hahn, Beauvais, Triviso, and Memmingen.
If Hahn wasn't sold as "Frankfurt" but rather as what it is, Mosel river airport, it would be a "real" airport. Hahn is just a 20 mins drive from Bernkastel-Kues. Cross referencing to my other post on Oberstdorf and Lee's comments about the area one should highlight that Ryanair's "Munich West", Memmingen, is just half an hour's drive from the town of Oberstdorf, which according to Lee, puts Vail in shame. Personally I haven't been to Oberstdorf in about 20 years and will let you know what it's like today once I'm back next week.
But, far more people go to Frankfurt am Main than to Bernkastel-Kues, and far more go to Munich than to Memmingen or Oberstdorf.
(And, Andreas, Shh, stop talking about Oberstdorf. The great thing about it is Americans don't know about it or go there. We don't want to change that.)
