Boston Logan Airport Customs/TSA -- recent experiences??

Has anyone had recent experiences departing or arriving Boston Logan airport??
How much is Customs/TSA searching people's bags and especially phones??
Are they asking people to turn on their phones and are they searching into people's phones??
Are they asking these things to people with valid American passports??

We plan to turn off our iPhones, put them into our carryon bags, this should be done regardless.
Also perhaps try to 'sanitize' them so they don't see our protest pictures (take backups first), related text messages, etc. (backup software suggestions??), perhaps remove extraneous email accounts from Gmail, Mail...I have numerous articles about recommendations which are more specific, or pertinent to people with green cards or visas, my BFF traveling with me is not technical and doesn't do social media at all, we will have everything printed out beforehand and place them into envelopes...mark them as TSA stuff, non-TSA stuff.

Thank you for letting me ramble!!

Three of us flew out of Boston to Europe on March 28th and returned on April 11th. At no point of the departure or arrival process at Logan were any of our Iphones or Ipads looked at or even inquired about. Nor did I see them asking anyone else around me about their devices.

Please stop readihg all this ridiculousness on Social Media.

Nothing has changed. TSA has no right to go through your phone. I've been through numerous airport security in the US since the new administration--including Boston-- and nothing has changed.

I've returned back into the US since the new administration and nothing has changed.

Contrary to what you think, they are not going through everyone's phone, they are not asking if you like the President, and if you are a US citizen, they can't deny you entry into the US.

If you have US passports, they will be more concerned with what you are bringing back into the US than what your political beliefs may be. If they decide to search your bags, it's not because of your poltiical beliefs but because you may be bringing back things you haven't declared.

Sadly, this is not ridiculousness on social media.

There are several reputable, law firms, and other sources you can go to to find out what your rights are and how to secure your phone. I suggest reading these and being prepared. I am.

I recently returned via Boston and did not have any problems, but I do have global entry and as a result, it’s a very fast process. I think that reduced my risk.

I just came back from Europe on Saturday into Boston Logan. I did remove my Face ID for entry into my phone and turned my phone off...just in case and to keep things more in my control if there was a problem. That being said, all seemed calm. I will say that although I have had Global Entry for 6 years, this is the first time I've used it because if I see I would be in the first 5 in the regular line when I walk by, I just go regular. This time I was further back in the plane...and hence the line was larger when I got there. There was even a line in Global Entry, but I moved through in 5 minutes and there was no stopping, just a slight slow down, for the Border Control Person calling my name and waving me through.

I did not see anyone giving a hard time to the regular line people either, the line seemed to be moving along fine in regular BC. In fact, US Border Control have, through the decades, always seemed to me to be the most unfriendly compared to other countries. The last few times I've come through I've received well wishes and smiles.

Sadly, this is not ridiculousness on social media.

I agree with Carol. I think you need to analyze who you are and prepare accordingly. I'm an opinionated old yankee with some newer Swedes thrown in. Good luck to them tangling with me. On the other hand, my son in law who became a US citizen last year will be more cautious.

I didn't sanitize my phone other than my usual (I remove Facebook because I'm on vacation, not for any other reason). If they chose to pick on me at BC, they'd have their hands full, so I'd be part of their lesson. I'd get a lesson as well, I'm sure, but it would give me another opportunity to stand up for people's rights. LOL

Unfortunately, I come back to Atlanta quite often because I live here. And we specialize in rude and unfriendly border agents. I once stood there and watch them interrogate a Delta flight attendant for about 20 minutes while the rest of us waited in the global entry line. Why? Because she had too many stamps in her passport. Now keep in mind she was in uniform. Wonder what the jerk thought she did for a living.

Another time an Agent looked at my passport, which at the time had a Russian tourist visa in it, and asked me if I was a communist. My response was to ask him for his badge number, and he threw my passport back at me and let me go
