Hello, We are traveling with a small group this December to Munich and Vienna. I have been trying to book rail tickets between the two cities in late December. Through the main rail website I have found a direct high speed train. When I go to choose the date, every date after December 14th is unavailable. In the three months I have been looking this has not changed. Is this a black out period that can only be booked a couple days before? Or do I just need to be patient and wait until November? Brian
You usually can't book rail tickest more than 90 days prior. Once these tickets go on sale (should be sometime in September), you shouldn't have any problems.
The official timetable changes are made in mid-December, and occasionally this can lead to tickets not being put on sale until after the usual 90 days.
I was traveling in Europe last year during December. You will find that many times train schedules will change or fill up quickly during the Holiday season. DB (DeutscheBahn)or OBB does not even allow you to view schedules after Dec 14th. You may have to wait till later before they post those schedule around Christmas. Try in September. Hopefully someone can help you out.
