Booking international night trains in Europe

Greetings!
Does anyone know how early one should make reservations for international night trains. I was trying to make reservations online for a night train from Montreaux to Venice but that doesnt seem to be possible. I will be in Paris 4-5 days before my trip from Montreaux to Venice. Would that be sufficient time to go to Paris and purchase it from there or is it better to book it well-ahead (how ahead?) than that...

Your night train leg will be Montreux (note spelling) to Bologna Centrale. As you know from responses on other threads you've started, popular night trains can sell out weeks in advance. And you know how to get fare quotations from Swiss Rail. I don't recommend waiting until you get to Paris.
