If I have a layover in Paris from Mumbai to the US and want to extend my layover to 3 days, do I get a better deal to book round trip on line then change the flight for the last leg or do I need to talk to an agent to arrange it before hand?

IF I understand the question -- not very clear to me. You would book a three leg flight -- Mumbai to Paris, Parish to US, and US back to Mumbai.

My plan is to book a round trip flight to Mumbai. The return trip has a layover in Paris and I thought I would like to spend 3 days there instead of 4 hours. I'm trying to find the most cost effective way to book the flights.

Have you played around with the different scenarios on the airline's website? I looked into this earlier this year and there was no price difference if I boarded a plane in my connection city 2 hours after my first flight landed, or 2 days after landing.
