I have a question about Bolt....is it pretty much the same as Uber.....you request a car, you get the price ahead, you get assigned a driver and car, and pay via the app?
Yes — at least here in France.
I seem to recall James mentioning it being a little different in Hungary but maybe I am making that up ?!
But for me here, it works exactly like what you mentioned.
Yes, we used Bolt in Portugal. We also found Bolt to be consistently cheaper than Uber. The commission charged to bolt drivers is lower. And in new accounts, we received many new customer discounts when we were in Portugal.
Working like charm for me in Estonia (both Tallin and Tartu) this week. Quick pick ups. Quite reasonable fairs. The drivers do not engage with you, but maybe that is a cultural thing in Estonia.
Yes, same as Uber but cheaper, no surge pricing and no drivers cancelling for a better fare. If both options are available I'll choose Bolt every time.
In France, someone who drives for both Bolt and Uber told me that Bolt pays them more, so I always use Bolt.
Yes, in the countries where Uber works like it does in the US, Bolt does as well. I've used Bolt in Vilnius and Tallinn and it works like Uber does in the US.
In Hungary, Uber is different - you request a car and get a price range, the ride is metered like a taxi and you pay via the app. (Uber just restarted in Hungary, per 2024 agreements.) I don't know if Bolt is in Hungary.
So, it can depend on which country you use the rideshare services and, therefore, which laws they must follow.
Bolt has surge pricing similar to Uber. Price will vary based on supply and demand. When it starts raining, the price increases and when it stops raining the price drops.
In Vilnius there were tons more Bolt cars than Uber. After trying for 20+ minutes to get an Uber I gave up and downloaded the Bolt app and got a car in 1 minute. This was from 2021.
Used Bolt in Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, S Africa and Tunisia without any issues
