boat trip from Continent to Great Britain

Trying to decide what route to take from the continent to Great Britain. My husband and I have done the all-nighter from Amsterdam. This time we have the kids, teens, and were wondering about the Calais-Dover route,or the Dunkirk-Dover. We talked our son out of the Chunnel for the expense and the scenery, or rather lack of. Also is there a boat-train ticket that will get us from the continent to London like there is from "the Hoek".

Thank you, that is a new resourse for me. I'll check it out.

Directferries.co.uk is what I use for figuring out any ferry.

I drive and have used both, but have no idea where public transportation would drop you off. The trip from Calais is about an hour and a half, from Dunkerque about two hours.

I've not aware of a combo ticket, but never looked for one either.

Not a lot of ambiance on any of the ships, but they're certainly not grungy.

...also... it's rare, but there is the possibility of choppy seas on the ferry ride. Be prepared for that -- if any of you are prone to motion-sickness, take precautions.

When are you going?

Hovercraft is less likely to cause motion sickness, but pop a pill if you're prone to it. I believe you can still take one from Oostende/Dover or Calais/Dover.

Just a word of advice from personal experience - I'd avoid the bus - loooooooong trip.

Have you thought about flying? Some good cheap airfares out there...
