Boat Dock to BBS Station

We will be arriving in Basel on a Sunday morning and would like to get over to the BBS station in Basel.

What is the best mode of transportation?
What is the cost?
How much is a taxi?
Are the Sunday schedules as frequent as during the week?
How far is the BBS station from Old Town?
Many thanks.

Hi Lee,

You are correct: SBB. From the maps I take it that Old Town in close to the station.

If you are familiar with Basel, could you please mention one or two must see sights. Regrettably we just passing through and have perhaps three hours.

Many thanks for your quick reply and kindness.

Cheers,

Bob

I assume you mean the Basel SBB (Schweize Bundesbahn) station? Judging from the Basel Liniennetz Map it's a short distance (less than 10 min) from the Schifflände to the Bahnhof SBB, and a number of trams (8, 11, maybe 16) run on that line every few minutes.

It looks like a Kurzstrecke ticket (less than 30 min) for €1,90 (adult) might apply, otherwise it's a €3 1 zone ticket. There should be a ticket automat at the Schifflände stop. You probably enter the destination and it will tell you which ticket and the price.

After further review, I am not so sure Schifflände is the dock area where you will arrive. There are some passenger ship docks at Kleinhüningen, on the right (east) bank near the German border. It looks like tram 8 services that area. There are also some docks at St Johanns, on the left (west) bank, just below the French border and it looks like tram 11 goes past that area. Tram 1 also goes through that area, over Dreirosenbrücke. All three of those trams go to the SBB Bahnhof and should have the same fare (€1,90 or €3).

The official website of Basel is here. There is a one hour tour in a 1920s tram from the SBB Bahnhof at 10:30.

I haven't been in Basel in 20 years, and then only to change trains. I became familiar with the Basel transit website (www.bvb.ch) a few years ago only because someone wanted to get from the airport to the DB (Basel Bad) Bahnhof and couldn't read German.
