We are flying out of Vancouver BC to AMS and then back from AMS to Portland. I understand I can print our boarding pass from home or a kiosk at the airport but how is checked luggage handled? I assume we stand in line to do that but then what's the point of doing the boarding pass early?

You might be able to check luggage curbside at departures or at the kiosks where they often times have three or four kiosks and one desk agent checking bags. So yes, there is a bit of a repeat because you get your boarding pass again to check your bags.

You must check all bags for international flights inside. There should be a special "Web Bag Drop" at least in Vancouver for your airline where those who printed boarding passes can drop off your bags.

Just print up your Boarding Card at the Web Check-in at YVR. Saves a step.
