We're considering a driving trip in Italy in July 2010. Is biodiesel available? Any price information? Thanks
We drove all over Italy two years ago and saw biodiesel at the stations. Since our rental took only regular diesel, we had to be careful when gasing up that we didn't use biodiesel (it's a green colored pump) because it can really ruin the car. Can't remember the price of biodiesel. If you want to be safe, get a regular diesel car. It gets better gas mileage than regular unleaded and is cheaper per liter. It is available at all stations. Have fun on your trip!
I haven't been to Italy, but biodiesel is pretty readily available in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. I don't recall the price difference... I was only paying attention to the price of regular diesel.
Bio diesel is cheaper but it is not as efficient as regular diesal in terms of energy burning efficiency due to lower BTU's. In the big picture you don't save money using bio, if that is your goal.
I noticed bio-diesel for sale when I drove in Europe. Since I wasn't sure the car I leased could use it, I never bought any.
It was a little cheaper than regular diesel, which is cheaper than gas.
