bikes on munich's s-bahn

Are bikes covered by a rail pass on Munich's S-bahn... could we use our twin railpass to cover two people w/ two bikes? (We don't plan on travelling during rush hour.)

At first glance, I'd say 'No', but I'll do some more checking. According to the MVV (Munich metro) website, they sell a Tageskarte (day ticket) for a bicycle for €2,50. It's valid for the U-/S-bahn as well as regional trains in the district. There is also a Bayern-Ticket for Fahrräder on trains in Bavaria for €5 all day. Here is what the Bahn says about taking bicycles on Intercity and Eurocity trains. The German language part of the Bahn website often has more information than the English side. According to the German side, certain routes in Bavaria allow free (kostenlos) transport of bicycles on regional trains. Some time restrictions apply.

Lee's research corresponds with my experience. In Munich my memory is (by the way bought my most excellent bike in Munich and took it to England via ICE and Eurostar, boy was that an experience) S-Bahn, yes with a ticket, U-Bahn some outwards but not into the centre at certain hours, no special ticket required. There are certain places, gardens for example, where bikes are forbidden. That's not the case with the Englischergarten where they are there by their thousands on a nice day. Have a great trip... watch out for potholes and trams...

The actual regulations for taking bicycles on the trains in Munich is given here (bottom of page, under Fahrräder). It's in German, I could not find it on the English side.

Thanks! Looks like we'll be buying a couple bike tickets...
