Two of us are planning a trip for fall 2013, hoping to rent bicycles (hybrids preferred) in Krakow to ride to Vienna, and hopefully drop off there. Thus, we are seeking a company that will do such a rental, either in Poland, or with delivery to Krakow and pickup in Vienna. We've done a lot of searching, and get no responses from Polish companies that we attempt to contact. Can anyone help or advise?
I hesitate to mention the obvious, but why don't you buy a bicycle in Krakow.
It sounds like that kind of arrangement may not be a great business model for bike companies, so they don't do it. I would either bring a crated bike with you from the States, or buy one there and ship it home (or bring it back on plane with you) from Vienna (caveat: I don't know the airline policies on bringing bikes over)
Airlines ship bikes. Back and forth the cost is about the price of a cheap new one at home, less than the cost of the same bought oversees. There's some prep required to ship. The info is fairly easy to find on the Delta site and is about the same as for other carriers.
Thanks, all...buying a bike "over there" is certainly an option we've discussed. I don't like the idea of flying our "home bikes" over.....I did that in the past, and had to deal with some damage. Here's what keeps coming up for us: a couple of years ago we rented bikes in the UK from a fellow who would bring the bike to you where you wanted to start, and then pick up the bike when you were done. He would go all over Europe to deliver and pick up. His bikes were very nice hybrids and road bikes, well maintained. We can't find him now. His name was Pete and his business was in Newcastle. I know of another company that does a similar service, but they won't go to Krakow with their bikes.
Wease, I just Googled 'bike touring Newcastle UK' and found this business-the owner's name is Peter, seems like it could be the same guy as you used before. At the least they may have a connection for you.
