Beware the volcano

You likely know about the earthquakes and such in Iceland, just be aware that if there's an eruption it will mess up air travel real good like it did last time. Have a backup plan or two ready.

And just about every flight from the US to Europe flies over that part of the world. When I left Germany the hostilities in Israel had just started and it sure looked on the fight tracker like they swerved to avoid it, which is good. But then of course we headed over to Iceland and Greenland.

The word "will" is a bit strong. Not every volcano blows an ash cloud like the one in 2010 (was it really that long ago?).
There are various types of volcano.

This one does not seem to be expected to blow an ash cloud.

Iceland and Greenland are the grand circle route, but they could equally fly a longer route further south across the Atlantic.

Not quite true.
Everything I am reading says Iceland is expecting a geologically different type of eruption than the other volcano, and is not expected to impact air travel in any way.

The word "will" is more than a bit strong. Always smart to keep an eye on things, but there is no guaranty at all that this eruption, when it happens, will be anything like Eyjafjallajökull. Also, as noted above, planes don't have to follow great circle routes. Look, for instance, at what Finnair has had to do to get between Helsinki and Tokyo since Russian airspace closed up. As I'm sure we're all aware, that's been going on for some time, and they keep flying.

We have been there during the last 3 eruptions and those did not affect flights. They are predicting the same for this one, although probably a lot of damage as the location is in a populated area. We head back again in 2 months and have no qualms about going.
