Hi, Flying into Heathrow early May to catch a Rick Steves Tour starting in Glasgow. Looking for your suggestions of best way to get to Glasgow from Heathrow. I have never been here, so have no previous experiences in the UK to start making these plans. Thanks so much for your input.
Sherrie
You could fly.
Or get the Tube to London Euston station and take a train from there. Allow about 4 hours to make the transfer to Euston.

If you're already at Heathrow, I would definitely fly. Is it possible to amend your airline booking to include that additional flight? Otherwise you will have to get into central London, get to Euston Station, and then it's over four hours on the train to Glasgow. The fastest way to do that is to get the Heathrow Express to Paddington and then take the Hammersmith and City or Circle line to Euston.
British Airways has 10+ flights a day between LHR and GLA.
BTW, what day of the week are looking at?
Why not just a book a flight to Glasgow from wherever home is?
Any checked bags will be taken care of and you won't be schleping them on a variety of trains, or having to retrieve and re-check them if you choose a separate flight .
Sherrie, it looks like your trip starts in Glasgow and ends in Edinburgh.
Ideally, flying into Glasgow and back home from Edinburgh would be best. But, depending on your home airport you may have to fly in and out of either Glasgow or Edinburgh. But the 2 cities are only about an hour apart and it is easy to travel between the two.
You may want to arrive a day or 2 before the tour starts to allow for both flight delays and to give yourself a chance to get over jet lag before meeting everyone.
And don't forget to apply for your ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter the UK. Official UK website.
Thank you everyone, we would have done a direct flight to Glasgow, but not available from where we live. Looks like a flight to Glasgow it is!
We are also going from SFO to Heathrow to Glasgow this May on BA. I debated going on AA with their SFO to Philadelphia to Edinburgh and then taking the quick train ride back to Glasgow just to avoid Heathrow but got talked out of the extra leg after an international flight. I guess we’ll see, I really don’t like going thru Heathrow.
If you fly "through" Heathrow, you can use "Flight Connections" to transfer between your flight into London and then to Glasgow.
You will transfer terminals airside and then go through a separate immigration area for connecting passengers. You will also go through security.
Which airline are you flying into Heathrow?
Sherrie, have you already purchased your tickets? What airline are you flying? It is almost always better to purchase one ticket from home to final destination even if you have to change planes in London or elsewhere.
For example, I fly from Chicago to London to Glasgow all on one ticket. It makes everything much easier.
Can you go from home to Edinburgh and then take the train or bus to Glasgow. Then home from Glasgow or train \ bus to Edinburgh to home??
Hi everyone. Thanks for your great suggestions, flying Westjet, which does not fly to Edinburgh til later in May. Yes, have checked other airline options, but they often take us through Toronto and We choose to not fly through Toronto if we don’t have to. We have great flights to Heathrow, just need to get to Glasgow for the first part of trip. So appreciate this wonderful community and your help. Have booked us flights to Glasgow from Heathrow.
Westjet uses Terminal 4 at Heathrow and British Airways uses Terminal 5. (I'm guessing you're on BA since it's the only airline that flies between LHR and GLA.)
If you go to this website it should give you step by step instructions on how to connect between flights.

It's sometimes buggy. I hope you left enough time between flights.
