Best way to go from Istanbul SAW airport to Sultanahmet area?

Most of the lowfare airlines go to SAW (Asian side) and we've heard itus hard to get to Saltanahmet area from there . Any experiences or good ideas?

I would take a taxi. I would NOT drive in Istanbul because of traffic and the crazy way people drive in that city. Taking a taxi worked well when I went with my family until we learned our way around the city. If you do not want to pay for a taxi look for a guide book at your local library. There should be a section on public transportation in it.

1) Do a search in the archives - this question has been answered before 2) Do a google search on Havas bus - it will give you a few options.

Sahiba Gokcen is a long, long way from Sultanahmet, so a taxi will eat up the savings you got from using the lowfare airline! It's anywhere from an hour to two hours by cab. Alternatively, the Havas shuttle bus will take you to Taksim Square; from there you can use the funicular and tram to get to Sultanahmet, or spring for a cab from Taksim, which isn't too bad. Or you can take a city bus (IETT) to the Hayderapas station and go from there to the ferrryboat terminal and take the ferry across to Eminonu, then take the tram to Sultanahmet. The easiest route is by cab, next easiest is the Havas shuttle plus cab, and the dirt cheap route is the bus-ferry-tram route. Take your pick.

We used
http://www.backpackerstravel.net for airport transportation. They met us at the airport and took us right to our hotel door in Sultanhamet for 20 Euros. It was cheaper than a taxi and good to have someone waiting for us on arrival.
