I have been looking at flights trying to get from Cork to Florence, but most are many stops and long hours, or prohibitively high in price. The ferry sites are not very user-friendly, but we could go from Cork to Liverpool, or other sensible UK city and fly from there to Florence, or Pisa. There is a ferry from Cork to Holyhead, 100 miles west of Liverpool-there must be (?) a better way? The plan is to spend 3 nights in Florence after Ireland, then head to the Cinque Terre for 3 nights. Any ideas? Dave
Right now, you have a really tough challenge. Flights that I see all seem to go through Heathrow or Gatwick. Further, most depart Cork in the afternoon or evening and you are expected to overnight in London. Overll journey times are 22.0-27-hours. However, there is some good news and some not so good news. The not so good news is that you have failed to tell us when you will be traveling. This is important. The good news is that Ryan Air has announced flights from Cork to Milan-Bergamo (which really isn't in Milan) beginning Mar 25. And, the better news, they will begin flying from Cork to Pisa on June 3. If you can fly into Pisa, you are less than 90 minutes by train into Florence. I can see flights into Pisa in late June. It looks like Ryan Air may not fly to Pisa every day so check carefully. The fares looks great. Also, carefully read their travel conditions. Don't just check the box and move on. Big fees on luggage sizes and weights. They make a lot of money on these extra charges. Here's a link to see what I see. http://gyazo.com/d33f3cbac03242bcbfdf2813934373f7
Thanks Larry, the Ryanair to Pisa may be the thing. I also found, though I'm not sure how I did not find it before, a Cork to Pisa flight on British Airways/Aer Lingus with about a seven hour total, not bad. I suspect Ryanair will be cheaper, so will check out. I'm traveling in September, so have some time. Thanks again, great info.
