Best Way to get to Newcastle from Amsterdam

Hello,

I am trying to figure out the best and cheapest way to get to Newcastle from Amsterdam. I will be coming off of an extended stay in Uganda, and am going to visit friends in Britain. Trying to figure out a good an scenic, but cheap (I am a student) way to get to Newcastle from Amsterdam.

You could fly easyJet from Amsterdam to Edinburgh and take a train from there to Newcastle.

Or you could take an overnight ferry directly from Amsterdam to Newcastle.

Direct options:

Rail: Travel to Brussels by train from Amsterdam, take the Eurostar to London St Pancras, then take a train from London Kings Cross (adjacent to St Pancras) to Newcastle. Expect to spend most of the day on the train. Check fares at www.eurostar.co.uk for Brussels to London and www.eastcoast.co.uk/ for London to Newcastle. You will need to book three or four months in advance for the best fares. The cheapest Brussels-London single is about £30.

Sea: DFDS Seaways operates direct overnight ferries from Amsterdam to Newcastle. Single fares seem to be in the £100-300 range. See http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/

Air: there are no budget airways direct from Amsterdam to Newcastle. BMIBaby flies to Manchester and Jet2 to Leeds, and you will need to get a train from there.

Bus: try www.eurolines.com
