We are traveling to Prague in mid-October and would like to take a short side trip to Budapest for a few days. What's the best way to get there, and how long does it take?

There are three direct EC trains/day that make the trip in just over seven hours. They depart at 07:30, 11:30, and 15:30. There is also a direct night train that departs at 00:42 and arrives at 08:32.
To see the timetables, go to www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down flag menu for English. After you get summary timetables for Praha (Prague)-Budapest, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time for more information, including connecting points (if any) and intermediate stops.
You can fly on Smart Wings, a budget airline; but the timing needs to be right. There is only one flight/week each way, Prague-Budapest on Wednesdays and Budapest-Prague on Thursdays.
