We plan to rent a car for 5 days in the Cortona/Siena/Assisi area, staying in Cortona. Trying to decide on transportation from Milan:bus, train or renting a car in Milan instead of at our destination.

Train to Arezzo or Peruia + car rental from there. By car, it will take around 4h40 driving time.

I took the train I believe to Arrezzo, and from there a taxi up the hill to Cortona. Buses also run to and from the train station to the town.
