any suggestions for the best way to get from London to Normandy. We plan to take the chunnel to France but wonder if we can get off before Paris and head further South on a train or car. Looking for the most efficient way. Thanks!
A few Eurostar trains stop in Calais. From there you could take a series of regional trains to Caen, etc.; but this will take twice as long as going via Paris. To see what I mean, go to www.bahn.de and click on "Internat. Guests" for English. Enter London as your departure point and Caen as your arrival point. After you get summary timetables, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points. Then start over and click on "via" and enter Paris.
If you're planning to rent a car anyway to tour Normandy, take a Eurostar train that stops in either Calais or Lille and pick up a car there.
