Hi, this is a related question from previous posts. What is the best and most cost effective way of getting from Rome to Murren? Is it Roma - Milano Centrale - Spiez - Interlaken Ost - Lauterbrunnen - Murren? And can I "sign up" my luggage during the Spiez transfer stop for a trip on its own to Lucerne rail station (to be picked up 2 days later). How long will this process take and how much will it cost? Will I likely be delayed during the Spiez transfer? Thanks much.
The best way is to fly from Rome to Zurich then take the train. Rome to the Lauterbrunnen valley is a long way on a train in my opinion. You'll have to do some research on the train and flight options to figure out what is the most cost effective way.
Fly into either Zurich or Geneva or Bern. Lugano is also a possible airport, but prices into there are usually too high. I would not train that far.
Use the trip planner at www.bahn.com. You can add a 1 hour stopover in Luzern to store extra bags at Luzern station. Use the "add stopover" function when entering data. This is a 12 hour journey. Nice mountain scenery though. Its a little qicker going through Spiez, but you have that luggage drop, and going through Luzern will take care of that.
Thanks all for your advice! Will try the train route still and see how i can shave off some hours from 12 hr journey.
