don't want to rent a car, what is the best way to travel? If train how many changes?
Thanks for the advise.
Janet,
One of the easiest and simplest solutions would be travel by train. This is probably the trip I'd use....
- Depart Orta-Miasino at 09:04, arrive Novara at 09:45
- Depart Novara at 10:04, arrive Milano Centrale at 10:46
- Depart Milano Centrale at 12:10, arrive Monterosso at 15:05
Total time of the trip is 6H:01M, but there's only two changes. There are numerous other solutions available. One of the shortest trips is 4H:59M, but has four changes. Of course these details will change if your destination is one of the other four towns.
You're doing VI, right? One thing to consider is that there may be other tour members who are heading from Orta San Giulio to Central Milan with whom you can share a shuttle. That will be more expensive than the train but may be less hassle.
The guide will start working on exit strategies on about Day 3 and will group people together on transport to Malpensa Airport and Milan so they may be able to tell you if anyone else is heading to the train station.
If you do go by train as Ken has laid out for you, the guide will cue you to purchase your rail tickets in Levanto as there is not a manned station in Orta. The guide will organize a taxi for you from the hotel to the train station as it is in the next town and too far to walk.
