I need to get from Venice to Prague using the best method (e.g. train or air). We are OK with an overnight train and air fares seem to be expensive with few choices. Any suggestions out there?
SkyEurope flies from Venice Treviso to Prague. We took this route in June 2009.
I agree with Tim. I also took SkyEurope Oct 2008. It only cost 65 euro a person and 1 hr 10 mins flight time. Many folks have a very short time & little money to spend on vacation so rail is not the best option in this case.
See Carol's post on this forum, dated 8/31/09, subject: SkyEurope Suspends Operations. Looks like they are no longer an option. Maybe the train would be your best way to travel to Prague.
Bummer... They were awesome!
It's a 14 or 15 hour train ride from Venice to Prague. Yikes!
Wow. Not having too much luck with options for getting from Venice to Prague. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and sit on a train for 15 hrs. Any suggestions for that? What about the Eurostar of DB Bahn?
You obviously understand what most people don't, that there is nothing (Innsbruck, Bavarian Alps, Munich, Nuernberg) worth seeing in between Venice and Prague.
You could fly Venice-Prague on Czech Airlines. A roundtrip ticket is cheaper than a one-way ticket. Book an arbitrary return date and throw away the return portion.
However, since you say you are okay with a night train, the best route is Venice-Munich on a CNL night train, a train from Munich to Nuernberg, and a bus from Nuernberg to Prague. Leave Venice at 22:51 and arrive in Prague at 12:30. That's a total travel time of 13hr39min. To see this for yourself, go to www.bahn.de. After you get summary timetables for Venezia Santa Lucia-Praha, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points. To get the cheapest fares, book each leg separately ASAP (up to 90 days allowed) at www.bahn.de.
Since SkyEurope just went bust, try wizzair.com for Venice to Prague. Still faster & cheaper than by train.
