Best Transportation from Bellagio to MXP

First time to Italy. What is the easiest way to get to MXP from Bellagio?

It looks like you would need to take a ferry from Bellagio to Varenna, a train from Varenna-Esino to Milano Centrale, and another train to Malpensa Aeroporto. Both trains are Regionale, so no point buying tickets in advance. This would all be rather time-consuming - What time is your flight?

We have to do the same. We determined we needed to stay in Milan the night before even though our flight was not early.

How are you getting to Bellagio?
Same way back (bus or ferry) to train connection, then train via Milano Centrale to Malpensa airport.

We either:
Take the fast ferry to Como and then a train to Milan, switch to MXP Express or
Hire a driver which we do the majority of the time.
We stay at MXP the night before our flight home.

Thank you for your replies. We are coming from Venice to Bellagio. Our return flight from Milan is 11 am. Trying to decide if we will have enough time to get a ferry and trains to airport in the morning. We are considering staying in Milan the night before.

I would definitely travel back to Milan the day before departure. You’ll never make your 11am flight otherwise! The ferry-train-train travel will take hours.

Yes, stay in Milan the night before. If you could get to Como Nord Lago by 6 am to get the 6:16 train connecting to Malpensa by 7:46, you'd be OK, but I could foresee a lot of things going wrong, not the least of which is getting a bus or ferry to get you there in time. Or spend the big bucks for a private transfer.

This is a very good idea. In fact it deserves a rating of 'excellent' or 'superior'

I do not know if things have changed, when we were in Varenna a few years ago there was no tickets available at the train station. You had to get your ticket to Milan before you got to Varenna. We were doing round trip from Milan so we got our return ticket at the same time we got our ticket to Varenna. You could get your ticket to Milan in Venice.

For ages Train tickets have been available at the travel agency next to the Varenna-Esino train station. And, of course, online up to 15 minutes before the departure time.

allanes: stay close to Milano Cadorna station and not close to Milano Centrale. The neighborhood is nicer and the train journey to MXP takes less.
