I will be staying at ravello in the amalfi coast and I have to get to naples airport for a 1:45 flight. The coast of a taxi will cost 110 euros which is too much for me. Is there a more economical way to get to Naples airport? I am traveling alone with a big luggage so is it too hard to get to airport by train/bus? I am a newbie at public transportation so any specific advice will be much appreciated.
There are a number of ways to do it on public transportation: Ravello is a short bus ride up the hill from Amalfi town. Amalfi town is your transportation hub. 1. Bus or ferry from Amalfi to Salerno, train from Salerno to Naples Centrale station, shuttle bus from Naples Centrale to airport. The ferry dock in Salerno is a 400-meter walk from the train station. 2. Bus from Amalfi to Sorrento, Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples Centrale, shuttle bus to airport. 3. Bus from Amalfi to Sorrento, Curreri Viaggi airport shuttle bus from Sorrento direct to Naples airport.
Joey, your post says "best". Best is taxi or private car. But, as you found out, it's expensive. For public transportation, you really only have one route. First, you take the bus from Ravello to Amalfi. Then, you take the SITAsud bus to Sorrento (about 90 minutes overall from Ravello). Then, you take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples Centrale. From there, you need to take the bus or taxi to the airport. You're looking at a 3.5hr-4.0hr trip to get you to the airport.
My instinct would be to get a taxi (pre-order) from Ravello to the Sorrento train/bus station, if the cost is anywhere near a range you can afford. Then take the Curreri bus, which costs 10 euros, straight to the airport. The options using the Circumvesuviana have too many components; and that train is a commuter train without good luggage space, and often very crowded. The bus is the kind which has luggage storage, so you won't have to wrestle with your bags inside. Start off early.
