Want to visit the Nice area followed by Barcelona, but cannot find reasonable flights. Has anyone travelled by train? If so, how was it?
Vueling is your only budget airline choice, but flights don't operate every day of the week.
Many thanks, Tim. I've checked Vueling and the only flight leaves Nice at roughly 1l:30 pm, arriving Barcelona about an hour later. Unfortunately, I'm not comfortable arriving anywhere at that time of night.
Train will be possible but you will have to change at least once (possibly more) and it will take most of a day. You will get to see some nice scenery, especially as the railway line hugs the coast around the French/Spanish border.
The fastest train route has one connection in Montpellier. See the timetables at www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down flag menu for English. After you get summary timetables for Nice Ville-Barcelona Franca, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points.
