We need to travel one way from York to Moreton-in Marsh, 2 days later one way MIM to Oxford, Next day Oxf to Bath and 3 days later Bath to London. When I compare prices, it seems buying single tickets may be the way to go instead of a FlexPass, but I am really nervous to go that way just because I haven't done this before and am afraid I am overlooking something. Can any of you experienced travellers help?
If you book about 8-12 weeks in advance, you can get a discount fare of £26.50 for York to Moreton-in-Marsh. The standard off-peak fare is £76.50 and the anytime fare is £77.50. The off-peak fare for MIM to Oxford is £8.90. The anytime fare is £12.60. No discount for advance booking. If you book well in advance, you can get a discount fare as low as £10.00 for Oxford-Bath Spa. The off-peak fare ranges from £15.50 to £19.60. The anytime fare is £23.80. If you book well in advance, you can get a discount fare as low as £9.50 for Bath Spa-London Paddington. The off-peak fare ranges from £29.60 to £39.00. The anytime fare is £84.00. Even though you'll be traveling on trains operated by different train companies, you can book all your advance tickets on the East Coast site.
For train times and also maps of the stations you can use http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/personal/home/search
They have maps of all UK stations except Kings Cross which you would not be using as the trains you take in from Bath come into Paddington.
If you can commit to exact dates and times, then point-to-point tickets will be the cheaper way to go. If not, then get the FlexPass and relax.
