We are going to be flying on BA non-stop red eye from Seattle to London soon with 8yr old and infant (we bought the infant a seat). I looked at seatguru.com, but any recommendations about requesting bulkhead or not?? I know you can request that area for the bassinets on the airplane (not sure if they will let me as we already purchased a seat)..but wondering if that is a good idea or not (i.e. removing seat trays when not needed, very close to bathrooms, etc.).
You can still ask for a bulkhead seat which is really what I'd do if I were you. That way even the middle seat person can get out at night or your 8 y/o can play on the floor in front of you etc etc.
We're doing the same in another month or so. We requested the bulkhead seats and have found out that different airlines handle this in different manners. Some will allow you to book them at the time you purchase the ticket and others hold the bulkhead seats until the day of the flight at which time they give preference to those of us with infants. So you might want to check with your airline to see if they have you in the bulkhead seats now or if you need to get to the airport a little early to make sure you get them.
Happy flying.
Just a note, how old/big is infant , those bassinets are not much use for bigger older babies, BUT, I would still try for bulkhead( and I'd arrive at airport early to do so) since as pointed out the floor space ahead of you is valuable, child can lie on floor etc.
Bulkheads are a highly saught after location. Keep that in mind and don't be too upset if BA can't accomodate your request. Remember, it is a request and only a request.
Priority is often given to Passengers with Special Medical needs i.e. Persons with limited mobility due to assistive devices.
It's always a good plan to purchase a seat for your Infant. You will appreciate it, and your Infant, I'm sure.
Have a safe and pleasant flight!
