best route to start travel in italy

We will be traveling from Munich in June and want to go to Cinque Terre, Florence area, Venice and then on to Rome (last) for flight home to US From Munich where would be best place to start tour of Italy. Venice or Cinque Terre?? It seems Cinque Terre is a little difficult to get to but would like to include it in our trip. We will be using eurail pass for travel. Is there a high speed train we should consider from Munich?
Please advise...

You don't say how much time you have, but the best route would be Munich to Venice, then Florence, then the CT.

The fastest German trains are the ICEs. Next come the ICs and ECs. There are five ECs per day from Munich to Verona; one goes all the way to Venice.

thank you Doug and Lee for info, We will definitely take EC from Munich to Venice to start travel in Italy. Then probably Florence - CT - Rome. We only have 10 days (2-Munich/1-Venice/3-Florence and area/2-CT/2-Rome. We plan to purchase Select Rail pass as will be originating in Germany and crossing Austria in route to Venice. As we have not traveled in Europe for past 10 years I am very rusty on train travel and passes.
My question is: will the Select Pass also cover our travel in Italy - city to city, or will I need to purchase and/or reserve other tickets/passes? Thanks so much for your help!
