I need to get my niece, aged 13, to Madrid for a summer camp. I'd like to fly into another, hopefully cheaper, city and travel our way to Madrid via rail. Any suggestions on itineraries?

If you are looking for economy and convenience you would probably do better with one of the budget airlines than with the train. You can use www.whichbudget.com to see which of them have flights to Madrid from various other cities.

I'm doing the same thing with my daughter. We are flying into Dublin and using Ryan Air to get to the other destinations, except the last leg from Dublin to Madrid, that one will be Aer Lingus. It was WAY cheaper than flying international through Madrid, which seemed to be a kind of expensive city to fly through.
