Will be driving in Austria,Germany and Italy in May. Would like to order some road maps or a travel atlas before going. Any suggestions on which are the best ? Many thanks for your input.
Hey Bob,
We always use Michelin maps we buy from Barnes and Noble. What I do is make enlarged (11X17) color copies of just the area's we'll be traveling. A lot easier to read and no need to unfold and fold that large map.

Michelin maps are great, but which map kind of depends on where you will be going. If doing a lot of back road travels, it really pays to get the regional maps. There is a good discussion of the various types of Michelin maps here (it is about France, but applies to all countries) :http://www.slowtrav.com/france/planning/maps.htm
The more detailed maps are available in bookstores in Europe, but I have not found them in US.

Bob, maybe this will help.... P
You can order detailed regional Michelin maps here: www.languagequest.com/traveler.
Enter "Falk Atlas" on Amazon.com. They are one of the most popular and well-designed German road books.
