When I drove in Ireland in 2005 I found the Michelin #712 Ireland map to be detailed enough. If you want even more detail, buy the Ordnance Survey maps for the sections of the country in which you will be driving. You can get more information here.

I agree...Michelin.but your best map is the one in the GPS that you buy here, learn to use, and take with you.

I loved my TOMTOM 920, with preloaded maps of the US and Europe. It was awesome on our last trip to Germany and Portugal.

It has contributed more to our marital bliss than any device I have ever purchased!

We used the rough guides plastic map - good for Ireland as it is waterproof! Found it very reliable, but something you have to watch is place names. We had another map and the names were not always spelled the same - sometimes the name on the signs agreed with one or the other and sometimes they were both different from the signs, but sometimes different signs pointing to the same town were also spelled differently!

The best European maps are made by Michelin. If you have a GPS with Euro maps, it's the best. I also have a TomTom 920 that I'm glad to have whether traveling here or abroad.

I have a Garmin NUVI with European maps. It makes driving there a breeze. I would make the investment if I were you.
