We are staying in Paris for 5 days in June and would like to rent a care to drive for a few days. We will be taking the metro to pick up to care and prefer not to drive in Paris. Where would you suggest picking up a car to drive in the direction of the southwest and avoid Paris. Thanks! We plan to use Europcar, but are flexible.
In 2009 we did what Tim just suggested, i.e., use the Europcar office near Porte d'Orleans. The car was in a parking structure across the street. It was easy to get on the peripherique and onto the motorway out of town headed to Chartre. Good luck.
Massy would be a good choice. It's on the RER B line and has several car rental companies. I can't remember if they have Europcar but it's highly probable.
In addition the main highways leading to the southwest (A10/A11) are easy to reach from Massy.
According to its Web site, Europcar has an outlet at Porte d'Orleans which is at the end of metro line 4 and just north of the Peripherique ring road. You'll have easy access to major roads going south and west.
